Empower sellers and get out of the way!
Randy Smythe's musings on the world of ecommerce, social networking, Web 2.0, Google, Amazon, Buy.com,Yahoo, Squidoo, online marketing and still probably a lot of stuff about eBay.
A fascinating glimpse into the world of Buy.comMy crystal ball says that when we survey the rubble of eBay post Donohoe, Buy will be what brought it down.eBay chose to flush the 'ones what brung them to the dance' down the drain in favor of Diamonds. Diamonds are businesses who will use eBay in the same fashion and pull the chain without a second thought. What goes around comes around.
Hey Henrietta,I don't think they are looking for many new Diamonds, based on what Donahoe said at the Analyst Day.They want to concentrate on the secondary market. The secondary market doesn't have Diamonds in it.
Now I'm confused. Who, exactly, is the secondary market? I thought it was sellers like Buy.com, with a large secondary/refurbished component.Truly ironic if they admitting after barely a year that trashing the level playing field for the sake of the diamonds is a failed idea! Of course, they get to keep the bad will their earned by the underhanded and ill-thought out approach they used. One question I have about Buy, maybe you answered it somewhere: If a 3rd party merchant sells on Buy.com, does his merchandise appear on eBay under the BUY name?
Nadine,For the most part Buy sells New in-season product, though our marketplace is open to end of life and secondary market product. As for your question... no, 3rd party merchant product listed on Buy.com does not get listed on eBay.com as Buy, as far as I know. They keep me away from that part of the biz.
