Bonanzle Closing in on 1 Million Listings

Just thought I would give you all an update on what's happening over at Bonanzle. They are approaching a milestone of 1 million listings in about 6 months time. Currently they are at
989,658 and should reach 1 million by the end of the day and they are doing this while making hard decisions; like limiting booths (storefronts) to 10,000 listings max

Here are some other numbers.
  • 22951 users
  • 6763 Sellers
  • 180,000 unique visitors a month (Dec's numbers) and growing.
There has been lots of talk recently about the eBay alternatives and it seems like there is a new site opening up just about every day -- not all of these alternatives will survive, but I think Bonanzle has one of the best shots.

First off, they are not trying to be something they are not. They are concentrating on small to mid-size sellers of unique and hard-to-find items rather than going after large retailers or commodity type items. They are already at break-even financially in less than a year and will be expanding their marketing efforts in the months ahead now that they have a solid base of product and they understand community and are keeping an open channel of communication with their users.

2009 may be a challenging year for eBay, but alternative sites like Bonanzle are going to get some traction in this down economy.

I'm pretty excited about Bonanzle...even more so than Etsy. I like the site and I like management and I like the other sellers. Everyone is trying to help each other and that means a lot. There is no wall between buyers and sellers and, in fact, Bonanzle encourages chats between buyers and sellers by putting an open chat line right in each seller's shop! To be frank my big worry about Bonanzle is that monster ebay will try to buy them up. As Ebay becomes more desperate this year they'll try to get their small sellers back and buying these sites is a way to do it. I worry about that...

I don't think you need to worry about that. If eBay wasn't interested in buying Etsy then they won't be interested in Bonanzle.

Are the listings the chickens or the eggs? :o|

I was wondering when you would pop in.

I think listings are the eggs. All the traffic in the world means nothing if you don't have anything for them to buy.

GoDaddy is going to run into this problem. They are going to generate all kinds of traffic to a site that really doesn't have much to offer.

Bonanzle is a niche site that now has tons of product. Those folks that are looking for that product will seek it out.

Randy one big difference between Etsy and Bonanzle is that Bonanzle sells everything - not just handmade goods. Bonanzle is where Ebay's "flea market" went. If Bonanzle keeps growing at this rate by next year a desperate Ebay may want to buy them to get a large amount of their small sellers back - the sellers of collective, vintage and rare items that they kicked to the curb last year ;-)

I have a booth at Bonanzle, but I still need Ebay for auctions. For some reason, despite what management say, a lot of my items move best in the auction format. In fact, I'd starve if I had to depend only my Ebay or Bonanzle store.

Randy-Quick question?

I know Amazon sells new clothes and I have recently found distributors with good name brands to buy from, but is Amazon a viable venue to sell new clothes, if you know? I see company's like Macy's selling there and I see other independent webstores, but I can't tell if it's worth it or not.

A number of sellers are doing well selling apparel on Amazon. It takes new sellers a couple of months to start seeing good sales there because you can't get in the buy box right away.

I would say go for it.

I will use Bonanzle as soon as something I google shows up in search on the first page..... Right now I see eBay, amazon ioffer, craigslists, plunderhere, shopwiki, myspace, collectorconnection, waresseker, martbase, 43things, storesdir and on and Bonanzle.

I search the items I sell.

Anonymous - Bonanzle now automatically uploads your items to Google Base - you just set it up and its automatic after that.

Im am with ms pat, Bonanzle is great. I wouldnt discourage a new clothes guy from going there but maybe auctiva, vendio or other store would get you the results you are looking for. ... Most likely there is no one on Bonanzle selling what you have so why would it come up. I say the less competition the better. At the same time we need more of everything. it is jux position (sp).
I dont think the Boyz as we call them fondly would sell to e, They want to build something and do it right. Time will tell.
In the meantime I have to do what I have to do to make a living just like everyone else.
I have eggs in more than one basket. for now. ma

Remarkable inventory and registered user growth on Bonanzle in six months! One million in approaching inventory says all in six months. The growth patterns are steady and we look forward to the next year! We believe it is a site packaged for success!

Continuous site enhancements, handpicked lists sellers may create for buyers to peruse. Sellers can create widgets of booth items for export to blogs. We look forward to what comes next!

The unique item count is growing daily! Bonanzle is a place where you can find everything but the ordinary.

Agree, this site is one to watch and feel assured it will progress nicely!

They won't sell to eBay - I flat out asked and he said no! I believe him.

Yeah I heard it too. In fact I got it on tape!

I think Bonanzle has hit on the right strategy for the small seller.

Permacrisis and ECBEauty, you guys are correct. Bill and his team have a good thing here and something worth growing on their own.

Bonanzle has other marketplace beat on certain features. I do believe that in time, Bonanzle can be bigger than ebay.
