eBay and Google Reach Agreement on Google Checkout

eBay's John Donahoe announced today, April 1, 2008, that Google Checkout would now be offered as a payment option on eBay.com and other eBay properties. According to Mr. Donahoe "Our chief concern regarding Google Checkout had been resolved and we are ready to offer it as a payment method for our customers."

Donahoe went on to say, "Google Checkout has proven itself to be a reliable and safe payment method and we are proud to now offer it to our customers."

As part of the agreement PayPal will now be offered as an option in Google Checkout, expanding the PayPal brand even further outside of eBay's core properties.

In a related move eBay announced that they would no longer be using Yahoo as its Sponsored Ad partner in the US and that Google would now be their Ad partner Worldwide. Google has been invited to eBay Live this year as a signal that the hard feelings between the two companies have come to an end.

Today, there is an entire flotilla of winged pigs soaring on high. I too was a bit high, when I first read this. Then it hit me.

Now, I just wish I were high.

Good one, Randy.

It was just reported that Microsoft (MSFT) has agreed to purchase Amazon.com for an estimated $98 Billion and will launch AmazonYahooMicrosoft Auctions in direct competition to eBay. Wall Street has nixed the deal, saying that eBay will be able to overcome any such competitive move. Shares of eBay are up 47% on news of the deal.

Wow! I was writing extensive plaudits until I finally caught on!

So, they're still the same crew of lying greedy creeps after all?

Very good. :^O
Any thoughts on TechCrunch's Google/Skype story? I can't tell what's true and what isn't over there at the moment.

It seems monpolistic and anti-competitive in the extreme for ebay to bar Google checkout. How can Ebay get away with such a blatant violation of the Sherman act? It is like Microsift barring Adobe software from their operating system.
