Last Post for the Rest of the Week - Maybe.

I'm heading out for a short trip tomorrow and won't be back until the weekend so this may be the last post of the week. If anything big happens, I'll try real hard to get something posted. I know how some of you get when I take a few days off.

In eBay News: eBay announced today that they will be holding a .20 cents listing promotion on the 13th, for just one day. Now, normally I would'nt post about a promo, unless I had something to add, but this time I'm just going to mention some things and let you speculate and play blogger:

  • Why have a promotion 7 days before your new fees go into effect?
  • Is this a response to the proposed boycott?
  • Will this be the last promo we see now that the fees have been lowered?

Let me know what you think and I'll check in at some point to comment myself.

Well then there is no reason for me to come back for the rest of the week. Probably going to play golf on some of those big adsense bucks, huh? Some nice warm place?

And what about the rest of us? Ever think about the READERS when you take one of these fancy-schmancy outings? NOOOOOOO!

Okay, I'll play.

1) It's the old "distract 'em with a cheap listing day trick". They often do it before fee changes: for example, there was a big one when they increased store listing fees, encouraging people to send SIF listings to core.

I think this one's just to keep sellers listing, rather than taking a week off before the new fees come into effect.

2) No.

3) No, but we'll see different ones now. I guess they'll be pushing listing upgrades more, and even more targetted ones: PayPal-only promotions will be a favourite in Germany and other countries that don't like PP much. I'll expect to see more Powerseller-only promos too, like the recent one in Australia.

Anonymous,

You're right, I am being very selfish. :) Read some of my old stuff if you miss me.

Sue,

Those answers are as good as I would have done. I just think it is to stoke the listings becasue many sellers, were holding off until the new fees kicked in.

It has nothing to do with the boycott, but I couldn't resist mentioning it.

I agree with you on future promos, they will just be different in nature.
