Live Blogging eBay Q4 Earnings Call

I'm going to try to live blog as the earnings call moves forward:

John Donahoe is speaking (eBay's Best Days are Ahead)

  • Continue expanding Trust and Safety initiative including user protection which may mean that PayPal will make it easier for buyers to get protection on their orders. (more details to followin the coming weeks)
  • Looks like fee announcements won't happen during this earnings call.
  • The great re-balancing of 2006 from Store to CORE has now morphed into the great re-balancing of 2008 from Auction to Fixed Price. (No mention of store)

Bob Swan is now speaking on Q4 numbers. Everyone expected good numbers for Q4. I'm most concerned of the future. As soon as they start talking about 2008 I'll be back.

  • Bob's talking about pricing right now and says they will announce changes in the next couple of weeks.
  • They will make Gallery more attractive but no details.
  • It looks like the details will have to wait until the 29th when eBay holds the eCommerce event for Top Sellers.

Hey Randy - do you reckon PayPal with T&S will equate to every listing having to offer PayPal as a form of payment?

I have heard that they are moving more towards an Amazon's AtoZ gurantee if you use PayPal. What it ultimately ends up like is still in question, but they are certainly going to improve the PayPal guarantee and Donahoe mentioned that they will help sellers in that respect as well.

Now I like the idea of the Amazon type promise!
Big question is before Dutta leaves PayPal will he come good on his pledge from eBay Live! that *every* PayPal address would be verified world wide, and thus eligible for PayPal seller protection policy?
Still waiting on that one but we've not forgotten ;-)

Chris, I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. They appear to be fighting different dragons.

Can you imagine eBay Live now that Bill and Meg won't be there?

He he he.... nasty dragons!
Not my problem, Mr Dutta promised us so he has to fix it like he said he would ;-)

eBay Live! without Meg or Bill? You now what Randy, all the people that have been wishing they're gone might find themselves wishing they hadn't. Shocking thought, but true!
