Is Billing For Non-Existant Clicks?

File this under rumor investigation:

There is a rumor building that has been billing clients for non-existent clicks and so far I'm not getting anywhere with any of my contacts. That could mean there is nothing to the rumor or I'm just not asking the right people. I've contacted eBay PR but do not expect a return email.

If you have any information or examples of phantom billing please contact me or post in the comments to this post.

UPDATE: Apparently there is nothing to this rumor. eBay's PR department has still not replied to my request for information (what a surprise) but I can't find any evidence that there are problems with billing practices.

UPDATE on the UPDATE: Hold the phone, it appears there may be some truth to the rumor after all. Stay tuned, I will post info as I receive it. Still haven't heard back from eBay PR.

I am trying to get them to explain how a website that averaged $7.78 / day in clicks for the 4th quarter 2007 was able to generate $178 an Nov 14th and $256 on Nov 15th in charges. I couldn't find a phone number to call so I filled out two support tickets - the second after the first went unanswered for 2 weeks. So far all I have managed to get out of them are some canned requests for a log of the IP addresses I believe the clicks are originating from and sales data including ROI. Wer're talking about a 30 fold increase in clicks, if someone would just look at the trending on the account it is soo obvious it is almost comical.

I'm sorry to hear that. Let me know how this ends up. If you could email me I would appreciate hearing more about the problem.

I wish I could help. Send the email to rksmythe at yahoo dot com

I'd say hold the phone again. My company is getting quite a few fraudulent clicks from an ad server and is making us pay for it. We're seeing 90%+ bounce rates on unpopular products with outrageous click numbers.

I've sent you an e-mail with hopes you can help!
